Hi all! Back on Memorial Day Weekend (27 May 2018 for those of you not in the States), I decided I'd had enough of my unhealthy lifestyle. I had gained over 70 lbs since I met my wife in 2006, was spilling out of my 2/3XL and 44" waist clothing, had no endurance and no confidence and was seriously worried about what my forties would bring in terms of health problems. After hearing a friend gush about their own weight loss success story, I immediately threw on the closest things I had to exercise clothes and hit the street for a 3 mile walk. I did it again the next day and all the days after that, increasing to a 10K step/day minimum. If it was raining or too hot, I drove to the mall and walked there. A short time later, frustrated with my slow progress, I added MyFitnessPal to my routine and revamped my diet to 1,500 net calories/day. When we went on a vacation in late June, I doubled down on my commitment and even managed to rack up 24K steps one day. In early July, my wife and I both got gym memberships and we are now there once and sometimes twice daily.
In just under 4 months, I have shrunken from 257 lbs to 211 lbs at 5'8" tall, with a final goal weight of 185 lbs (we'll see how things continue after that). The benefits have been numerous. I've lost 6 inches in my waist, lost my double chin and fat face, no longer have sleep apnea-like symptoms and no longer have problems with one of my knees or back issues when I stand for long periods or run/attempt to run. Earlier this week, I committed to running in a 5K road race sometime next year and have begun training for it. I have run three 5K practice runs so far and achieved my best time of 36:42 this morning!
If I can do this, truly anyone can. My best to all of you and keep up the great work!
