Hello!
This is my very first reddit post ever and I'm on mobile, so please be gentle. For starters, I'm female, SW: 240 CW: 235 GW: 200 (for now). I've been using MyFitnessPal and it's got me eating 1340 calories per day, if I want to lose 2 pounds per week. My thought process is, if I follow it strictly and all goes according to plan, I lose 2 pounds, if I have a week that goes less well (lots of overtime, stress, periods etc.) I'm still doing better than I was.
Before starting, I thought I was eating "healthy". AKA I ate stuff that sounded healthy. Im like "ah, yes, bran flakes are good for you. That means I can have it for breakfast and an afternoon/late night snack, right? Right?!" And I thought that because my second job was retail and I'd spend a minimum of 4 hours on my feet walking around that it would off balance the rest of my time that I spent at the office computer/my home computer. Obviously, as much as I would like it to, weight loss doesn't work like that.
Things went quite well the first 2 and a half weeks. I messed up my lower back because apparently my genetic make up consists of a weak ass lower back, so I took it easy on exercising for a bit. So there's hiccup number one. Hiccup number 2 is the fact that I've been spotting since around week to up until now (week 4). I'm on Lyza for birth control. This birth control is different as it doesn't have a "period week". All the pills have the hormones in them, because before birth control my period was hell on earth, migraines, heavy bleeding, indescribable cramps etc. With this, I dont really get my period, at least not regularly. If anything, there are months where I've got nothing going on in that regard. With this spotting, I am hella bloated. I feel like I'm not losing anything anymore and if anything I'm gaining. I try to have lots of protein and I have these breakfast shakes that have lots of vitamins to try and make sure that I'm actually eating healthier as opposed to just less calories. Before, I just ate. Like a lot. I wasn't counting calories at the time, but I ate a lot more carbs before starting (I wasn't kidding about all the cereal, and a lot of the time it wasn't always bran flakes). I also still ate lots of veggies and chicken, tilapia etc. These are things I still eat, just more proprtionally.
I've read that diet changes can lead to hormonal changes and because my hormones have been rather fucked from the start, I'm not sure what I need to eat more of to get me back on track and really just not spotting anymore. I'm also not sure if this is something I should just bop on over to the doctor about. I also live in Iowa and I do not have a primary doctor that I go to. Anything birth control related I go to Planned Parenthood because it's free for me, so they probably/might be able to help with that? Maybe? I'm not quite sure. Which is why I'm here. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated (also any workouts that are gentle for the lower back and might help the muscles would also be appreciated)
TLDR; I've changed my diet, my uterus is not pleased about it and I've been spotting for about 2 weeks. I dont know what to eat to help get my hormones back on track or if this is something I should speak to a doctor about.
