So I recently went through a plateau, one month stuck at 154lbs, and I thought I’d share a little bit of what was helpful in terms of getting me through it.
First of all, plateauing was fucking awful. I had been steadily losing since the beginning of summer and I could taste my goal weight. Before it started I felt like I had this weight loss thing nailed, but when the numbers just stopped going down I became ridiculously frustrated. What was the point of depriving myself if I wasn’t losing? Why not just eat at maintenance?
I’ll admit now that my calories had started creeping back up, but if you had told me that three weeks ago I would have called you a liar.
I asked a question on the daily post. Sweet people responded suggesting I re-evaluate my TDEE because I’d lost 20lbs. I checked it and it hadn’t moved. I believed my body was just being difficult.
The next day I read some advise on a post (not mine) suggesting that if weight loss was coming slowly, go without even the little treats until you hit your goal. Say to yourself, “I’ll consider having that after I hit my goal weight.”
So that’s what I did. I recommitted. No little treats. Walking and reading loseit on my breaks at work. Logging every single calorie. It was hard, but using the advice I mentioned above really helped me. I also took a short break from the scale because I had become so obsessed with the number not dropping.
Five days later—BAM! A four pound drop. I had reached a normal BMI for the first time in 19 years! I haven’t quite reached my goal weight but I am ridiculously close. Thank you to all of you losers for your support and help and I hope this is helpful to some of you!
