New to weight loss and have questions about nutrition labels and such.... please help

Hello everyone. I'm 6'1 - 6'2 and close to 400lbs yes I'm large and I hate it. For the past week or so I've been cutting my calories at first it was to 2900 and now to 2400. I lowered it because while being calorie conscious I haven't even hit the 2900. My question here is this. Is only calories the important factor? Is it the only thing I should look at when I look at labels or such? Like if something low in calories but seems high in saturated fat or sugar or etc. Im just so confused on what to look for when it comes to stuff, what's important. Any sort of help with my confusion would be greatly appreciated. Also I'm not looking to build muscle or anything. Simply just to lose weight by changing my diet and walking everyday with a minimum of 30ish minutes.

P.s. I have cut out all soda, candy, chips, etc
