I can finally fit in my high school bras again! I left them in a drawer and then forgot about them. I had not wanted to throw them out since bras are so expensive and they were so pretty compared to the ones I had to wear once I gained weight and my boobs got bigger.
My main goal for losing weight was to look and feel better. But another big reason was to get to a low enough BMI to qualify for a breast reduction. When I started losing weight, my BMI was 34 and in the obese category. My insurance will not consider covering the procedure for anyone with a BMI over 30, rightfully so.
Losing 48lbs in the first year of my weight loss journey got my boobs from a 38G (my back was killing me) to a 38DDD. Bought a new set of bras over Cyber Monday but it’s 6 months later and those 38DDD bras have been getting loose up top as I’ve kept losing weight this second year. Currently at 59lbs lost and fingers crossed I hit the 60lb milestone when I weigh in this Sunday.
This morning, I decided to try on my high school bras since I’m not trying to buy new clothing items until I lose the last 15-20lbs; at 5ft those pounds can make all the difference. The bras are a size 36DDD and a bit tight but they fit! So I’m hoping they’ll fit well once I lose the last of the weight. And if they don’t then, I guess I’ll just have to buy some new bras.
Definitely still plan on getting a reduction in the future (once I’ve reached my goal weight and have maintained for a while) because I want to get to be a full C/small D to match my new body, get rid of back pain, be able to buy less expensive bras from any store (right now I’m so limited) and to finally be able to wear cute clothes with no bra or a strapless bra.
I am so glad I decided to lose weight before a reduction. I originally had a consultation 3 years ago when my BMI was in the overweight category and the surgeon said she could make the case to insurance that a reduction would help me lose the weight. I just know that if I’d gotten the reduction then, my boobs would probably look gross because I gained 25lbs and then lost 59lbs after that appointment. I also know I would’ve felt awful if I had smaller boobs with a giant gut sticking out. That's such a common complaint in a breast reduction group I’m in on Facebook.
But weight loss is 90% nutrition so despite having big boobs, I was still able to lose weight by focusing on my nutrition. I honestly haven’t worked out for most of my journey.
