As some of you may be aware, I have lost around 275 pounds in the last 3 or 4 years (450-175). I have mostly been maintaining over the past year, sticking within the same like 15 pound range. I put on a little weight over Christmas but have been really on track again since then. The past couple weeks my weight has been trending upward a bit though as I have been overeating protein bars in the afternoon. Sometimes 6-8 in a row. Now, this past week I have had a pain in my foot and it has been harder to run (I typically run 15ish miles a day). We had a lot of snow Monday night and I didn't get my run in, and now tonight it is raining and I wasn't able to run. I overate protein bars this afternoon and then went to the grocery store and picked up a bunch of bad snacks I haven't had in a while (dirt dessert, popcorn, chips and guacamole). I am so stuffed now after my binge and I know I can get back on track tomorrow, but this was a pretty disappointing day in my journey.
I have been very successful overall, and I am sure when all is said and done I will only be up a couple pounds at the most, but even the most successful dieters have their struggles. It's important to share that and not make it appear like I am a superhero who breezes through weight loss and just succeeds. I have struggles, but I succeed because I stay the course and don't let them knock me down for good. It's important to realize when you are falling off the path and get back on as fast as you can. I think that's part of the key to successful long term weight loss and maintenance. I am posting this as a lesson for others, but also as a reminder to myself during this time where I am feeling down. We can do this.
