Have any of you ever dealt with not having a sudden rush of weight loss at the start of your journey?

Hey guys.

So I’ve been down this road before. Lost 40 pounds in 2015 when I was 25 but then progressively put it back on again over several years. It knocked my confidence and I had trouble sticking to CICO again for a long time.

So I’ve spent the past year really focused on sorting my mind out. I’ve read some great books on mindset and stoic philosophy and I can safely say that the things that drove me to bing eat and constantly be 30-40 pounds overweight are cured. Mentally I feel like a completely different person.

But here’s the thing: I reached my highest weight in January at 228 pounds. I’m floating around 218-221 now but it’s been stuck there for 5-6 weeks. I know you hear of a lot of people not understanding plateaus, but early plateaus seem to be a big thing for me. I slowly lose water weight for a few weeks and then I stall. I count and weigh every calorie and I’m doing strength training for 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week (as I said: totally changed mindset).

I’m just wondering if any of you have dealt with this? All of the literature seems to suggest that most people experience sudden and rapid weight loss at first and then it slows, but mine seems to be consistently slow. And it worries me every now and then that maybe I’m missing some other problem.

I’m a male, 29. I eat 1650 calories a day Monday to Friday and 2000 on Saturdays and Sundays. +/- 10% every day.

When I talk about mindset btw: old me at this point would have said "its pointless, I cant change. Eat this tub of ben and jerries." New me is thinking "Well you cant control the pace, but you can control what you put into your body, regardless"

Would love to hear your experiences. Thanks.
