I have been following CICO for quite some time and have lost 50 lbs. I had about 10 to go when I decided to start exercising more so that I could tone my body a bit. I started doing HIIT 3 times a week and suddenly my weightloss (which had been about 1.5 lbs a week) stopped altogether and then according to the scale I gained 4 lbs! And it has been sitting right there for 3 weeks now. I have continued tracking and weighing all of my food and am still maintaining a reasonable deficit.
I read that this happens from water retention in muscles as they heal, combined with muscle gain (though I'm not sure how much muscle I could have really gained in 3 weeks!)
Has this happened to anyone before? How long did the gain/plateau last if you continued exercising? What were ways you motivated yourself to push through when the scale became an unreliable measure of success?
